Specialists in Political Economy meet in Faro to discuss the way out of the crisis

The 5th Annual Meeting of Political Economy "Vulnerabilities and social and economic transformations" takes place in Faro on the 27th, 28th and 29th of January 2022. This event brings together in this edition one hundred and fifty economists and other specialists from the most diverse disciplinary areas and approaches, focused on the debate on the crisis generated by the pandemic and on the necessary transformations of the economy and society.

The Meeting begins with a Winter School, with several guest speakers and the discussion of doctoral projects presented by students from various universities. In the following days, the general event takes place with parallel sessions, thematic panels and plenary sessions. Among others, Saskia Sassen (University of Columbia, USA), Bruno Amable (University of Geneva, Switzerland) and Claudio Milano (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain) stand out.

The President of the Meeting is Adriano Pimpão, Emeritus Full Professor at the University of Algarve, who, among other positions, was Rector of the University of Algarve, President of the Council of Rectors, Vice-President of the Economic and Social Council, or Member of the Independent Commission for Decentralization of the Assembly of the Republic.

The 5th Annual Meeting of Political Economy is organized by the Portuguese Association of Political Economy (EcPol), Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve, CinTurs - Research Centre in Tourism, Sustainability and Wellbeing, CEFAGE-UAlg - Center for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics and by the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. The Meeting takes place at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, the Meeting uses a hybrid model, with a majority of in-person, plenary and parallel sessions, and a set of online sessions.

CEFAGE-UAlg is calling for the award of 1 Post-Doctoral Research Grant within the scope of the Center's scientific areas (Economics and Management).

The researcher will contribute to the reinforcement of scientific activities that are developed in the various lines of research of CEFAGE-UAlg, which have as central objective the development of scientific production. The researcher's activities are developed at CEFAGE-UAlg, and focus on aspects aimed at scientific production, namely literature reviews in areas of interest inserted in the Center's thematic lines, collection and treatment of information in research projects, dissemination activities results of research and writing of articles for scientific publication.

The competition is open from August 3rd to September 2nd, 2021.

We hereby inform that the applications for 2 scholarships for students with a Bachelor degree and 2 scholarships for students with a Master degree will be open soon. In both cases, students need to be enrolled in an academic course (for example, a PhD program) preferentially at UALG.

These scholarships will be developed in the project “MONITUR - "Observation and monitoring of the Algarve tourist destination: contributions for its sustainable development", coordinated by Professor João Albino Silva, CinTurs researcher.
